I was looking at the sky tonight... and the moon caught my eye and locked my sight.... It has this deep dark orange tinge... Not like the normal bright moon I always see...

It started fading off into the night and disappeared... What is this phenomenon called?

The orange tint meant either there was a lot of dust or smoke in the air, or it was near setting. The Sun can also look orange or red as it sets. If the Moon faded out of sight at night, it was obscured by clouds, dust or the horizon (It set).

If the moon was near the horizon it might appear red due to the scattering of the light by dust in the atmosphere.
