It begins a new cycle. By the way, you should start worrying about it now, because our calendar has a 4 year error in it. Sept 12, 2012 is really Sept 12, 2008. You have little more than a year to get your affairs in order if you think the world is gonna end.

Watching all the hubbub over the year 2000 was such fun once you knew that 2000 had really come and gone already.

It's just a date.

The Mayan calendar last apocalypse was scheduled for December 21, 2012 which is when the sun will be in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy and the Mayans were an astrological and astronomical people who took great appeal toward such signs . The sun will not be in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy after this period for almost 26000 years which in their belief does not necessarily signify an end ut could also be the sign of a new age for humanity. The only thing that is definite is it will or will not be significant.

Yes it does. The real question is, however, does that hold any special significance for us today. There are those who argue that the calendar is linear and therefore when the days run out, the world as we know it is over. However, we've heard that a bunch of times before, the year 1000, the year 2000, when the Russelites went atop the mountain in the 1800s to await God's coming, etc.

Now, in order to objectivize the Mayan calendar, there are those who suggest a cyclical character to it, or they try and down play the famous ending point, but the calendar itself does in fact end on that date. Do I personally hold any special significance to that date? Not at all. It had to end at some point for them, so that is when they ran out of dates and characters. It doesn't mean a thing and I plan to be here and alive and well on the 13th

No. The Mayan calendar measures time in cycles and that date is the end of one very long cycle but it is at the same time the beginning of another one.
Some sort of monumental event might be expectd though just as likely good as bad.

I have a book called "Mayan Cosmogenesis," where they talk about that. Supposedly, the planets are all going to be in some sort of profound alignment. This is supposed to mark an evolutionary change within the spiritual collective consciousness on the planet. People are going to begin to transform energies and ideas, the way that we think and act, realizing that it is imperative in order to survive. Hopefully, and I would like to think this with all of my heart, that the Middle East will be a part of this spiritual awakening, of sorts. We are all connected, and we all need to realize that so we can at least strive for world peace. don't you think?

I bet you weren't expecting this. :-)

nope. The mayans predicted several apocalypses, the most colorful of which I believe included raining jaguars. The mayan calendar dosnt really end therel; it just happened to be the last apocalype they predicted.
