A little over a month ago my yorkie was in the garage with me, I was getting ready to go out so I was closing the garage door. Well, I guess he saw something outside that he wanted to chase after right at the moment I was bringing the door down and I hit him. I realized it when he cried and when I reacted I realized that the door had hit his back and pinched him between the floor and the door. I emedialtly brought the door back up and he walk off limping. I picked him up to see where he was hurt and say a very small amount of blood on his paw. I did my best to clean it up and take care of it, but he wasn't very cooperative. The cut healed but he still limps, although it's not everyday. Some days he walks just fine and others with a lite limp and other days he won't put his paw on the ground at all. What could be wrong? Could he be faking it? I'm affraid to take him to the vet because I found him 2 years ago and don't know if he has a chip. Don't want give him up please help!

Please don't missunderstand me. First of all when I found him I posted posters all over the place and even put it on craigs list. I may have expressed myself incorrectly before when I said I was afaid to loose him and that's why I haven't taken him. It's just that since some days he limps and others he doesn't that's why I thought maybe he was faking. If you all recommend I take him to the vet then I will that's why i asked the question to begin with.

The vet won't check for a chip unless you bring him in as a stray. Go ahead and take him in and get him checked out. Dogs very seldom fake it. He limps when it hurts and doesn't when it feels better. You won't have to give him up, hon, so don't worry about it.

Are you saying you haven't taken your dog to the vet in 5 years? Sounds like you care more about yourself then your dog. Take him! Don't mention finding him 5 years ago just tell them what happened. Rarely do dogs "fake" pain for attention, and if you are a good owner, he wouldn't be seeking attention anyways which means he is probably really hurt. Go before something permanent happens...if it hasn't already.

Well, just don't mention the chip. Ask about his back, an X-ray, whatever. If you have had him for two years and have not taken him into the vet, then you really need to. Ask about heart worm shots as well. But, you really need to get his back X-rayed, and check to make sure he has no cracks in his spine or spinal cord damage. Also, it isn't incredibly likely that he is chipped. But, you really do need to take him into the vet.

Take him to the vet.....it's not fair to let him suffer....my vet never checks for chips unless there's someone who has reported to him that their specific breed of dog is missing....you might stand a chance. But on the other hand maybe someone is devasted at losing their dog....wouldn't you want someone to return your dog to you? You could get a new puppy that would be all yours, free and clear, no worries.

vets dont routinely scan chips, they only do it if someone brings in a dog and says "i found him.can u scan him?" i have chips in all my pets, the vets never scan them-cause they came in with an owner-me! ur dog can,and most likely does-have a crushed bone or torn ligament or muscle.not treating him is cruel!dogs dont fake things-theyre not people, their minds dont work that way.a garage door came down on a tiny breed of dog-he was most likely hurt!the vet wont scan him-just get him help, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and while ur there, get him his shots and heartworm meds.u have been neglecting his proper care!!!!!!!

you really should give him back to his owners...... however its possible that he has damage and it is more painful after resting or in the cold. he needs an xray. not all vets scan chips, they would see one on an xray only if it had travelled to the injury site.

Please take your dog to a vet before there is irreversible damage. Don't be an irresponsible pet owner, besides that don't you regularly take him to a vet for shots? Do the right thing...

Take him to the Vet (or) Would you rather see him hurt because you are afraid you will get in trouble?

Your dog is not faking it.
It sounds like he may have dislocated something.
Please take him to the vet.

You don't want to give your dog up so you'd rather see him limp? That seems cruel.
