I've heard that the storyline and the actual events that occur, are in fact real. Except that the directors and writers sometimes ask them to stop the conversation and start over, or to make changes to it.

Is this true? Like, are all the things happening in the show, happening in real life too?

For example, is the character of Heidi actually with Spencer in real life also?

(By the way, I absolutely LOVE The Hills.)

It's scripted. They do a good job of convincing people that reality TV is...reality. Prime example: American Idol. Great job by the creators to suck people in, but sadly it's all scripted.

It's as real as reality TV gets. There are portions that are probably reshot or slightly staged but Heidi and Spencer are/were(?) a couple just as LC and Brody Jenner are...it's a little agsty to be 100% true, but it is alarmingly close (IMHO)

I believe that it is real...some of the stuff may be reshot, but other than that its real. I think that the reason that the characters sometimes seem like they have practiced a script is because they know that they have a camera in front of them, and they make act differently beacuse of that.

I heard it was real events, but I believe that some of the scenes may be scripted. Maybe if someone out there knows one of them they can answer.

It's real life...It's not like Beverly Hills 90210 if that's what you're asking...they are real people, those are their real names and real lives...
