Ok first off, thanks for everyone who answered my last question about GD. Ok, so I haven't seen my doctor in awhile, and it is hard to get in contact with him.. but I just wanted to know if anyone who had GD and had to take insulin shots, did you have to do that after delivery also? Do you have to continue till your next glucose testing? Also what was your rate of having a big baby? I'm asking b/c i have a small frame, but a little overweight, and everyone keeps asking me if I'm having twins and I haven't gained that much.. i'm 35 weeks prego and have only gained 16 pounds with this whole pregnancy. So not sure about the weight gain.. and my doc doesn't even want to see me until my 38th week.. which I think is stupid and have repeatedly asked to be seen before then b/c of this and he said there is no reason. Also I have a military doc so its hard to see another doctor this late on. So just wondering how evreyone else did. Thanks

Well, usually with GD, they will test your sugars in the hospital and then decide if you still need insulin. Usually, once the baby is born, you normalize pretty quick and don't need it anymore, but there are always exceptions. The baby will also be tested in the hospital to make sure it's sugars are fine and blood sugar levels are in the norm. Usually, there isn't a problem there either.

As far as you being so big, it could just be the way you carry. You haven't gained that much at all, and for having GD, you are doing really well!!! You probably just carry out front, so you seem bigger, even though you really aren't. I get big too, so it isn't just you.

Usually, doctors will want to see you more since you are considered high risk, but with military doctors, they work different. If he thinks it's fine, it probably is. As long as your sugars are fine, and you aren't fluctuating too much, you should be fine.

Your baby may be a little bigger then most, but as long as you are taking care of yourself, and watching your sugars, it should be fine. Usually, they will do another ultrasound around your 38th week, just to check on the size of the baby. If your doctor doesn't say anything, ask him!!! Sometimes with military doctors, you have to stand up and tell them what you want. It all depends on what's covered on your insurance too, so talk to him about it and see what he says.

Good luck to you!! I'm sure things will be fine and you will have a healthy, hopefully happy baby!!

I understand your frustation I had gestational diabetes with my 2 kids and again now with my third. I definately think you need to keep trying your doc, just to set your mind at ease. My gluclose levels went back to normal immediately after my delivery. I did have to check my sugars for a week or so and then randomly to make sure everything was ok. I was also very large during my pregnancies but my my kids were 7 lbs, 6oz and 7 lbs, 8 ozs. I only gained 10 lbs with each. Just keep trying your doc as he/she would know best. Good luck!!!

Gestational Diabetes usually does not carry over after you have delivered. Well if your doctor is comfortable with not seeing you and giving you the insulin then you should be fine, however if you do not trust your doctors words then see another doctor or go in to the hospital and ask them. They will answer your questions if your doctor won't.

I have some information on our message center regarding this your welcome to read it, the pregnancy section will have it all.
