The information our doctors gave us says that babies should double their birth weight by 4 months and triple it by 1 year. My son was 10lbs 2oz when he was born. He weighed around 26 lbs when he had his 6 month check up. He has slimmed down now since he's moving around so much more and he also lost some weight when he was sick, but he's between 25 & 26 lbs now at 9 months. Another thing to consider is that until babies learn to crawl and walk, they are going to be chubby. Everyone always commented on our "fat" baby, but our doctors told us he was growing at a steady pace and was perfectly proportional. I wouldn't be concerned about your grandson's weight unless he is out of proportion with his height or if he's gaining weight too rapidly. If they are taking him to the doctor, their doctor should be able to tell them if he is growing properly and discuss what he should be fed and such. Hope this helps!!

all babies are different and it also depends on his height. go to parentcenter.babycenter.com and that will tell you his percentile. This will still not tell you if he is overweight, just tells you averages, he may be bigger than average but still doesn't mean he is overweight. His Dr really needs to be the one to decide this.
My son was 9 lbs 14 oz at birth and at 6 months weighed 18 lbs and 2 oz

They need to double their birth weight at 6 months. So he should be 20lbs. My daughter was 7lbs even at birth and weighed 14lbs 4oz at her 6 month check up so even though she is on the small side, she doubled her weight so she's just fine :)
