1. Can't answer this one, but possibly the sola plexis, a bundle of nerves.

2. It could not jump or swim, or move it's back legs, since signals can't get there anymore.

3. Fat bodies act as a food and energy reserve during hibernation, so they are large before hibernation, get used during hibernation, and are small at the end of hibernation.

4. Powerful legs allow for jumping on land, and, when attached to webbed feet and toes, for strong swimming in the water.

5. Large numbers increase the chances of some surviving to adulthood, it also allows, after hatching, of a wider spread of offspring. Releasing sperm into the water allows for wider dispersal over more eggs. (not sure about this last bit).
