This is not a stupid question, it is a very indepth one. The only questions one can ask that are worthless are those to which they only know the answer.
Any system that constantly seeks origins or causes, creators an creation, will eventually end in either:
a) something being eternal
b) confusion or disbelief
For another example, many question, if matter was expanded during the big bang, where did that matter come from, what created the matter?
No one has perfect theories for this. Good luck forming your own.

Animals evolved into humans on a different planet long ago. Because of the intelligence of humans, they stopped evolving because they were able to create treatments and cures for normally fatal illnesses. Eventually they created Artificial Intelligence that they combined with themselves, just like an extension of how everyone carries a cell phone with them now. Just like any species, they needed to progress and reproduce or they would eventually become extinct. They shared knowledge and technology until you could no longer truly call them individuals; they were part of a single multi conscious mind with many appendages that appeared human but were far superior. Eventually their artificial components became connected to their bodies through a sub-spatial interface, which we call their spirit. They quickly grew in knowledge and power until they became what we know as God. We are the method that God has decided to continue replicating.

This is actually one of the great questions of history, Kind of a chicken and egg thing. As long as you personify god then 'he' must be created. If you perceive god as more of a by-product of existence rather than the cause of existence some of those problems go away.

It's not a dumb question.
In fact, I think that is the brick wall that all orginazed relgiouns slam up against eventually.
I'm afraid you can't apply rational questions and logical reasoning upon religion. It will just crumble down upon itself otherwise.
But here's another brain teaser while we're on the subject. . . if Adam and Eve were the first people created and they had children, then who did their children marry and have kids with? Does that mean that all mankind is a product of incest??

This is my theory:
Gods were created in a big bang. Then evolution singled out the best of them. They created humanity, which totally got the wrong idea.

As much as I'd like to believe there is, there can't be a god. And if people really look into themselves and admit the thing they really dont want to... They'd think the whole thing was impossible too.
We only have one life so make the most of it.

i dont beleive in religeon. but that question has been asked for thousands of years. and here is an answer: God always was. there is no time because time only exists to humans and time is linear and only exists with the physical realm. the afterlife is outside of of the 3rd dimention with differences in terms of time. the past present and future are all one
