Religion was created to help explain things that the first humans could not understand. Now we've got science to do that for us.

I believe that religion started when God revealed himself to man and taught man about himself and things beyond this life. However because of the rare appearances, man has mixed the truth with various Philosophies. I believe that Jesus Christ restored the truth to Earth, and when there are prophets on the Earth the truth is preserved but the truth is keep and spread by a small group of people. I believe that Joseph Smith was the first prophet since Christ's apostles to have the truth. Many truths were restored to the Earth by God to Joseph Smith and other apostles.

mini expirements? Well, possibly. I dont care to dwell on that, though. I an not yet developed enough to finish pondering the matter--indeed, my brain has recently done a total reboot, a process known as teenness-- but many scientists that religion is a complex system of ethics. Bolder ones say it is one that has gotten out of hand. This is what I'm going with, for now.

Religion is in place as the one thing all people truly want, is to be part of something bigger than themselves. And there will obviously be alien life forms out there and whos to say they dont have a religion of sorts. Whose to say their religions wouldn't be based around a deity and not instead a way of life devoid of superstition.

I have been in and out of religion and my feelings on this is that religion has it's purpose in each persons life journey to help them get to be to their greatest potential if they can be open minded and not rooted to one religion or train of thought or have to be religious at all. but too many people misuse religion to control other people or to judge them and put them down or to use God as a device to opress other people and exalt themself. It is also used to bring communities and like minds together and is a good socializing tool.

It is socio-economic control. Here are things not to say or do, and here are things to say and do. Just like with any holy text, it is to control the people make them subservient to a more powerful group.
