Yes your friend can double up the ram capacity. However, since it is an old computer, I don't see the point into doubling the ram since it will be hard to find the ram that is compatible with his/her motherboard and ram stick.

This depends on the motherboard and how much memory he already has as well as the type of memory needed.
In most cases increasing ram is possible on older machines. You need to find out what motherboard (or manufacturer) and what the total ram limit might be. You can do this with a model number (if its a major manufacturer) or with the model of the motherboard (usually imprinted on the board).

yes.. can be double it.. but maybe the pc will hang or stuck.. if want havedouble ram, find the same type of ram.. i suggest just use one ram but largest MB/G...

Depends on the motherboard and how much ram it can take. How much ram do you have aty the moment? It may not need to be upgraded, there may not be any point to it.
