It seems a good share of it goes for obscene mansions and private jets to tour the world. How do they justify this? Is it brainwashing or just a case of looking the other way?

Their 'leaders' tell followers what they want to hear as they're yearning for redemption and life eternal. If there is a hell, I hope the leaders do not pass go or collect $200.

It is no different than other people sending loads of money to THEIR leaders. Ultimately, it is no different than spending tons of money for your CEO to fly in his jet or paying $50-100 for tickets to a sporting event. It is money that is out of your pocket and into some rich person's pocket instead. Think about your favorite actor or athlete or musician. You buy their stuff. They live in obscene mansions and fly in private jets. What's the difference? Are you brainwashed? Or do you choose to throw your money away?

No offense. I do it, too! That said, this is a stereotype. Lots of born again Christians do not send tons of money to televangelists. And lots of church leaders are not rich and living in obscene mansions. Some of them are, but they provide a message and entertainment value that some people enjoy. So they send money to keep it going. Is it smart money? Probably not. But what is?

Ultimately the answer to your question is good marketing. Is that the same as brainwashing? Maybe so. If it is, then 99% of the American population is brainwashed. If you don't believe it, check out how much name brand products you own that you THINK you HAVE to have. You actually don't. Then why did you buy it? Same principle.

Probably for the same reasons liberals and Democrats continue to donate to members of the Man-Boy Love Association.

We want to keep our people in power.

Furthermore, obscene mansions and private jets? When did John Edwards and the Kennedys become born again? When have I ever sent money to them???

born agains? you need to specify which leaders.

religious leaders (hence the "born again"), we do not give to religious leaders, we give to ministries, but i still know preachers that live in great big houses and drive BMW's. i just don't go to those kind of churches.

political leaders - political donations are monitored so closely (at least if you are a republican) that i would think it impossible to buy real estate with campaign money, or other frivolous things like that. as far as private jets, and "tours", i think if you or i were politicians, we would use campaign donations rightfully to campaign, which includes travel. are you saying that non- "born-agains" that make political donations expect those donations to go other places than funding a campaign?

Huh? First of all what do you know about "Born Agains" and how could you even mention private jets while Al Gore added about 3 degrees to the temperature of the globe with his flying around? Talk about brainwashed...pot, meet kettle.

Well thats the way it is. What can you say. Religion never demands anyone to abdone their common sense. No one needs to bribe their way in heaven by slipping dollars to priest or so called religious religion. As a matter of fact those so called religious leaders or priest who accept money in any form raise question about their integrity. There are plenty of expamples that some of them just put a show for money.

Wow, what a wonderful name! Born Agains.
Many people look at a group of people as a whole and pick out individuals to ask questions about.
The evangelists who do not spend money wisely will ultimately have to answer to God for their stewardship and how they spent their money. It is wrong in most cases to live lavishly and beg for money.

they think they can buy their way into heaven, but on a more serious note, someone has to pay for the preachers hookers.

My dad's born again... he's like an alien. They took him to their spaceship (church) and stuck him with a needle (crackers) and injected "faith." So ridiculous.
