i'm in a band and i need to buy some good singing equipment. I dont want to spend a lot of money and i've heard that keyboard amps work just as well and are cheaper. Oh and another question where can you buy a smoke machine??

Keyboard amps work, but they don't sound good. Get a PA System. Fender makes relatively cheap ones. (Fender Passports)

Your best bet is to go to your local Guitar Center (if you don't have one near you, check www.musiciansfriend.com) and check out what they've got. You can also get a fog machine at GC. There are decent fog machines for relatively cheap also. If you're looking to spend next to nothing, try ebay and hope for the best, but know GC will work w. you on the price.

well if you want to use more than 1 microphone, you need a mixer. mixers include the pre-amp and can feed a keyboard amp which needs a high level input. you can also get a mixer or dj rig that has the power amp built in which would save having to haul yet more gear. Instrument amps are usually not a good choice, because the distortion they generate is just a part of the sound, sometimes desirable even, but is not good for voice clarity.
