Please can someboyd explain to me what Skins on E4/Channel 4 was about?

What is - or WAS now, I guess - the Channel 4 show Skins about?!?
One of my Facebook pals has invited me to join a Skins appreciation group... but a)I've NEVER seen it and b) I've NO idea what it's about!!

I know.... I'm sad for not knowing, but please don't laugh!

No, The Spliffinator, I don't know what it's really about, but I DO know it has almost nothing to do with sport (if anything at all!).
