I am just looking for a very rough ballpark estimate for how much it would cost to replace a 25 year old furnance (forced air, burning fuel oil).

It would be for a 1300 sq. ft. house.

Would it be close to $1,000? $5,000? $10,000?

This would be for an elderly person who doesn't have much money and, thus, wouldn't "splurge."

I'd say $3000 to $5000, which should include removal and disposal of the old furnace and installation of the new one.

a williamson 100,000 btu oil fired furnace can be bought for about 1800 dollars plus installing...removing the old one and installing new one about 6 hrs labor so the whole job could cost somewhere between 2500 to 3000 dollars....this size furnace would heat your home easily.

Installed - $2800 to $3500 assuming duct work is OK and we are just dropping the new one in. Oh, and some localities require a fire inspection - so add another $25!

u need to call a furnace installer or 2 in YOUR area. Giving u a price is alll well and good but as we have no idea where u live it would b rather redundant at the most.Just call a local dealer and they will tell u everything u need to have. and know

Between 2000 and 2500 depending on your BTU's and the brand.

I would guess that $2500 would be worst case scenario. It could be half that much under the right conditions.

$5,000 to $10,000 for sure, but it kind of depends on where you live. Make sure you get several estimates before you choose one.
