Hello,
Before I begin, let me say that I am a black woman and in no way am I one to call "racism" when something bad happens to a black person or someone else. So do not think that I am one that screams, "racist!" any chance that I get...

Now, I have been a member for only a few days and though most of the questions and comments stated are cool, it really does shock me when I read the racist comments made about groups of people.

I'm a human being and as much as I know racism exist in this world, it really just shocks me all over when I read statements that totally degrade different groups of people based on race.

Does anyone else feel the same sort of dissapointment and sadness when they read some of the really awful comments that people make?

I just can't believe it sometimes, it's like "dang."

Yes, it does, very much shock me. I guess I'm very lucky to live in a part of the world where race is simply not seen by those around me.

I'm white, but in the middle-class neighborhood where I grew up, I was the minority. None of us saw skin color. We were just friends, and didn't pay attention to it.

As an adult, I live fairly close to where I grew up, and still live in a place where skin color is irrelevant. In particular, I work for a multi-national, multi-billion dollar company, where we celebrate the fact that we're all from different places. What a beautiful thing to be able to share our different cultures with each other!

I find it shocking and disappointing that others still make judgments based on someone's genetic heritage. What a waste of time to only see their DNA, and never get to the real person on the inside.

I can only assume that it's based on fear & insecurity on behalf of the racist. Otherwise, I can't honestly explain this irrational behavior.

In every group there are always those of that group that depict the group in a wrong way. Thats just how people remember them. I live in southern Texas and I am viewed as a red neck. No racism doesn't shock me. Its everyones fault. Just be strong and look at the world with an open mind.

I'm more shocked by comments that are clearly racist to me while the contributor seems completely unaware of the racist undertones.

Often, people will use racist comments on anonymous forums like this because they like to see the reactions they get while knowing that their identity is protected. These forms of racism don't shock me. It's just somebody who's trying to stir things up.

Not that I am cool with either form. I'm just saying that racism inherent in one's own convictions is potentially a lot more damaging than racism laced into someone's immature attempt to start a fight.

I even have observed it additionally, and it is particularly unhappy how ignorant people may be. i'm purely quite bowled over that there are one in each of those great style of offended people around. They hate themselves plenty they experience the ought to objective and placed across different individuals all the way down to make themselves experience stable, and black people seem the objectives of all the hateful comments. no longer all blacks people are the comparable.

yes. i think it is very disappointing. especially because this is the society that we live in today. and this is our generation of people. Just a couple weeks ago i walked by a racist boy. and that really didn't phase me because he didn't say anything to me, but the sad part is that he was only 10 years old!

I don't find it shocking because I grew up in Alabama, where racism is as common as dirt.
I do find it dismal that we are still dealing with racism in the year 2007. It makes me sad, too.
It's not much different than the sexism you find in Women's Studies, or the religious hatred in Religion & Spirituality, though.
