Well does it freeze up? Or does it go to "the blue screen of death"? Also how much RAM does it have, because low RAM could be part of the problem.

And too many programs or music files would have nothing to do with it. The way your computer performs is not affected by how much hard drive space you have, unless you are REALLY low.

Ehh Not really.

Even when you're not using the computer, its doing stuff.

Check the EVENT LOG under administrative tools under control panel.

It'll have an entry with a red X for all such crashes. That should help you find the source of the problem.

Also, when you say crash, what happens?
Blue screen? System just freezes?

Go to(in safe mode, if need be): Control panel/system/advanced tab/startup and recovery box/settings button/ sytem failure/ and then uncheck "restart on system failure" ( take the check out of automatically restart box ) , and then check the "Write a system event", and the "Admin alert" boxes (check "send admin alert") and the next time it randomly turns off/restarts/reboots, you should get a blue screen with white text, which will have code info. Write down the exact Stop Error Code and put that exact error into the Yahoo and/or google search box to see what info you get, and in the MS Support Knowledge Base (KB) = http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 - to check it out to see what info you get. +

Also go to your device manager (devmgmt.msc) and check the properties and look for anything suspicious and check that the settings are where they should be.

well that happened to my old laptop.
the thing was that i had limewire in it.
the computer didnt recognize any files that i had downloaded off of limewire as a virus and it also happens when dowloaded stuff off of youtube.

you best bet is to give it to a nearby computer tech store and they fix it for you and then remember not to download without double checking.

hope you laptop ends up working =]

take it to someone that you know who knows a lot about computers that could analyze it and then take it to the company to replace it or whatever the warranty allows....
