I just can't seem to get motivated. Sometimes I make to do lists but things just never seem to get done. My bedroom is the worse, it looks like a tornado hit it!...clothes everywhere, on the dresser, floor the bed everywhere...I'm so embarrassed, I don't even want anyone one to go in there and see the mess....why do I do this?

Because it's overwhelming and it's boring. You do the same things over and over and over...so you put it off for a bit because it's so redundant and then it becomes overwhelming.

When I have the gumption (and that's not very often) I start in one corner of the room and work my way around. I focus on one task at a time. I take a box with me to put things in that don't belong in that room (otherwise, I would leave the room to put one thing away and start cleaning in that room and so on and so on...never quite getting any of the rooms done).

But mostly, I'm a clutter bug because I have other things I want to be doing. I'll clean when I'm old or when I get a maid.

You 'procrastinate' because you don't like 'house work' because it's something that you 'have to do alone' ... and you can 'get around this' by doing what I do ... try 'writing a letter to a good friend' and 'cleaning' for ten to fifteen minutes then 'telling your friend' how she's helping you for five minutes ... then 'back to cleaning' and then more writing. I don't really know 'why' this works ... but I do it all the time. I also hired a 'professional organizer' to come in and help me get our 'chaos' organized ... she's 'expensive' but she works 'really fast' and I want her to be 'proud of me' so I do things between the times she comes ... and in another 6 weeks, I'll have the 'totally organized house' I've ALWAYS WANTED ... with 'really very little work' to get it to that point.

You put it off because it's not fun. Many people wait until the last minute with things they don't enjoy. Christmas shopping, taxes, cleaning, etc. When the mood hits take advantage of it and clean everything.

Seems like you're lacking drive. I'm constantly cleaning, I'm a stay at home mother of 3. I hated cleaning, and still do, but know that if I don't do it, no one will.

because you can.
if you had to get it done you would. I made myself get things done as soon as i see them. If i see garbage to take out, I just do it before I can procrastinate.
I tried punishing myself but that doesnt work.
good luck :P
