I'm not concerned about my child, it's how does one cope with office beaurocracy after being away from it for 5 years?

I think the best way to deal with it would be to take it slowly. Even though you've had a big life changing experience by having a child and being a mother for five years you won't have any trouble if you don't make it too hard on yourself. Your coworkers will probably understand, and so will Human Resources. Some work places now have orientation for new workers and you will benefit from that. Also, if the company offers any additional training sessions it would be to your advantage to take some of them. You can always go to your supervisor if things aren't going well and he/she should be able to help you. Good luck on the job--you'll do just fine.

The first day I left my daughter, I cried, turned around and went back to check on them, worried all day long about them, drove like a maniac to get them to see they didn't even realize I walked into the room. They had a blast and then everyday got a little easier on me. Going back to work is hard, but remember this you are a mommy first off, but you go out and take time out of mommyhood and enjoy working. The kids will be fine.

dealing with the office bull is no worse then dealing with people around you. Take everything one step at a time. ignore what doesn't concern you and don't get mixed into the he said she said battle. Do your best and you will be fine.

I don't think you ever quite adjust back to it after being home with the child. It seems even more petty than it did when you left.

The day both my kids are in school and I can go back to work guilt-free I will rejoice and dance naked in the streets.
