I don't usually eat much sweet stuff, but did eat a lot of dried fruit and biscuits last week because I hit a lonely spot. I have not really binged like that ever before. Then I crashed right down into depression - it has lasted quite a few days.

Someone suggested it could be the sugar(s) which did this.

Does anyone else have this experience?

I am told that sugar gives you an instant 'high' which I have not noticed personally, but maybe I wasn't paying attention. I thought this was just an effect in the blood, not in mood.

If sugar does give a mood 'high', would the inevitable result be a deep depression - and if so, how long does it last?

Do doctors know about this, or psychologists? Why is it not more widely talked about?

hmmm good question from what i think sugar is meant to make you hyper isn't it? like in coke bottles, that's what makes you go hyper! When i've drank coke, i usually get this big burst of energy (from the sugar).
but in long terms, too much sugar is depressive.

no not at all....
i think that you might be going through some problems that made you find a way to forget for a while, and that was the reason for that binging episode...
it wasnt enough to make you forget about that problem obviously...
think deeply, and you might know what happened that day!!!!
sugar usually gives you a good feeling, it's the increase in blood glucose levels...
some people feel depressed after eating too much sweets, and that's because they start worrying about gaining weight...
on the other hand you should make sure this doesnt occur frequentle, because if it does more than twice a week for a couple of months, there will be some possibility that you are developing some sort of an eating disorder, which is charecterized by binging food, psychologists call it bulemia...

This is more of a medical health question than a psychology question. Yes, just like with drugs, sugar will give you a high, and then it can give you a low. This can make you feel depressed or just lethargic.

Now, I don't think it would last as long as you're talking about unless you had an abnormally high amount of sugar all at once or stretched out over a period of hours. I don't think in the amount that you're talking about that it could've caused you to feel like that for days.

It could because it might change the chemicals in your brain and then that will cause depression. Yes, when you eat sugar your blood sugar goes up and makes you really hyper but then later you feel really down. The difference is if the down feeling or I should say tiredness doesn't go away for like a week then you are probably depressed. I have never experienced depression from sugar, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. If you go to a dr. or psychologist they will be able to help you more.

Well here's the theory of a 13 year old:

Since I don't drink or get high, I get hyper by eating tons of sugar. Sometimes I refer hyperness as the kiddie version of being drunk, because after a while I get tired, which is probably like getting a hangover. I mean, it's not like total depression, I'm just like "uuuughhh" all day.

the thing about sugar is that if u eat alot i will make u hyper and happy but at this their is a cost a few minutes later u will crash you will feel depressed and lazy you might fall asleep if you had some of these symptoms u had a mojor sugar crash it was most likely the sugar

sugar takes you on a roller coaster - yes there is a high but not like what you may be looking for. and yes - you will come down from it and it hurts like any come down. if you were more in tune with your body you might be able to detect this more readily.

it makes you tired and low in enery in the end, you can get hyper at first but it has side effects
