The first part of this film was made with the idea that it would be a pilot for a new David Lynch TV show. This is where he introduces a ton of characters and numerous storylines.
Unfortunately, ABC pulled its support for the series so David Lynch finished it as a feature film.
If you watch you'll notice that in the beginning, there are no swear words and no nudity, but at the end cursin, cursin, boobie, boobie.
I would have like to seen the TV show. I loved Twin Peaks.

The first two-thirds of the movie was good. The last third sucked and was very hard to follow. Then I read a review that said the first two-thirds was supposed to be a dream and the last third was reality. Could be - but it was not at all clear and it ruined the movie for me.

i believe it is the only DVD that comes with a manual!! the DVD i rented had a list of things i was supposed to pay attention to in order to get the movie.
OK it was a dream and all but they should have made it a bit clearer...at the end of the movie i really wished i had chosen to dream than having pressed play on my remote...

No, it was pretty standard for Lynch. I don't want to post any spoilers here (not sure if that is appropriate).
