the easiest way to get horsepower out of your car is to allow it to breath easier. aftermarket intake systems are available for practically all cars. these will allow the intake side of the engine to breath easier.
also, a new muffler or catback exhaust system will allow the exhaust side of the engine to breath easier. these can be custom made at companies such as Monroe or Meineke.
you also may be able to pull out a few additional horsepower by the means of a computer tune. companies like powerchips make a small handheld gadget that hooks into your computer and makes changes to better suit your driving needs. these are available from reputable companies and the product is vehicle specific.
DO NOT be tricked by faulty gimmicks that can be found on ebay, (electric superchargers, perfomance chip resistors......)

I get at least six points a day on this question.
1. Cold air intake. A filter and a tube that lessen the restrictions in the stock air filter system and deliver cooler, denser air to the engine.
2. Free flow exhaust kine Magnaflow, Gibson, etc.
3. Performance chip or programmer.
These three items will set you back 700-1000 bucks but will increase your horsepower by 20-25%. Nothing else comes close for the money. Nitrous can be added for another 700 but you will have engine life issues with the use of nitrous.

Normally, people go with headers, cold air kits first. Then the programming chips. The next step could be NOX.
Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go.
That's the old saying that has been going around for decades.

could put a bigger exhaust on it, a cold air intake, check to see if they make a programmer for it, or just buy a supercharger for it...
