Unfortunately, every practicioner differs in their way of check-ups during pregnancy. The best thing you can do is to ask your doctor yourself about what to expect over the next few visits.
To give you a good example, I used to have a pelvic exam with EVERY visit when I had my daughter two years ago. Now, I haven't had one since my first visit, even though I go to the same doctor. It's best to just ask at your next appointment.
I'm pretty sure though, that if you wanted them to check for dilation, your doctor would be more than happy to do so, if for nothing else than to put your mind at ease. It never hurts to ask!

yes he'll probably check your cervix but don't get ur hopes up i'm over 40 wks and i just started to dialate this week..but everyones different
from what i've expierenced(sp?) he'll check your cervix every time you visit and you can request test to be done to check for amniotic fluid leak and they can even do a test to tell you if you'll go into labour within the next week...but you have to make sure your cervix hasn't been "manipulated" within 24 hrs before the test you're doctor may also send you in for a non-stress test and a final ultrasound to check on the babies brain
Good luck!!!

Yes they will do a strep test. They will also do a pelvic exam checking for dialation and effacement. Good luck to you. Also they will start doing this at your once a week visit all but the strep that is only done once.

If he's doing the strep test he probably will check for dilation as well 'while he's down there'. I had the same appt last week and my doc did.

Each ob is differnet. Most of them will start checking to see if you have dilated and some wont. Mine never checked up until i was 38 weeks. so it depends upon your ob. but it should be pretty much the same.

normal routine and yes at 36 weeks they do normally start to check you, but even if they say you are dialated that doesn't mean anything i am 36 weeks and have been walking around since 34 at 3cm and now at my appointment yesterday was told i was slightly over 4cm. many women dialate for weeks before anything happens.
good luck

Each OB is different.
Mine started weekly pelvic exams at 36 weeks. They can be pretty uncomfortable, but not that bad.
