Prom night is soon, and i am begging my mom to let me get a ride home from a friend. We will be having a post-prom party at a friends house (whom she knows very well) and i hope to get a ride from another friend (who she also knows well) BUT she says no because 17 year olds arent allowed to drive after 12, and wants to pick me up. am i right to be mad at her for this, or is she in the right to not let me bend the rules?

Please let your Mom pick you up. I lost two friends on Prom night when I was in high school because they got killed in a car accident due to driver inexperience.

There were no other problems other than the fact that the driver did not know how to drive after dark very well and went off the side of an embankment due to a low shoulder on the road and lost control of the car.

Be thankful that your Mom is letting you go to the after party, and just let her come get you. You do not want to have someone else calling her to tell her you have been in an accident.

Your Prom night should be all great memories.

Good luck and have fun (be careful...yes I am a Mom too)

The cops will be watching the roads for kids out later than they're supposed to be, especially on prom night. If your friend gets pulled over, you and your friend could both be in a lot of trouble, and in some areas, your parents could get into trouble, too. Just be glad your mom is letting you go to the party, and have her pick you up. She could refuse to let you go at all. It's called compromising.

There are times when it's okay to bend the rules, and times when it's not. When it could involve legal issues, it's not.

Mom is your very best friend. She is trying to protect you and she knows best. You will understand someday when you are a Mom. She is in the right. Listen to her. It can save your life.

You mom is just over protective. You could ask you mom if you could sleep over at your friends house and have her parents confirm with your parents, so your mom doesn't worry.
