In order to succed you will have to really want it, the more you want it, the more you will be able to conquer it, and since you have already taken the first step to realizing it, your off to a good start. Now i cannot tell you how you can dicipline yourself, all i can say is that inside you know how, now the hardest part is putting it into action, but its not impossible.

And the punishment wont be neccesary, just go for your goal, punishment might be the process and sacrifices of giving up what you are use to.

Self discipline is the most challenge goal in all of humanity. It takes high levels of motivation and will power, but fortunately you can achieve it. Start out with ONE thing, do not try to take it on all at once. Want to stop smoking? Start with that or with another one. Find someone who wants to do the same thing that you want to do and both of you work together. Same thing goes for drinking. Depression on the other hand, is not something that you should even want to punish yourself over. That just leads to a downward spiral. Figure out what is causing your depression and deal with that. If you cant figure out why you are depressed on your own, see a counselor or psychologist. There is NO need to be embarrassed if you need or want to see a professional. They could perhaps also provide guidance and suggestions with the other things you want to work on.

Finally, with work. Work is something entirely in its own class of "problems". If you are unmotivated with your job...seriously consider doing something else. If you are stuck at a job that you cant really see getting out of anytime soon. Then set a goal of getting training in something else and view your current job as a tool to getting where you want to be...instead of just viewing it as a burden. If you really like your current job then talk to your supervisor/boss. Tell them how you feel and be honest. Maybe they could give you a different position or give you more responsibilities so that you feel that you are doing something more worthwhile.

Hope this helps at least some.

Set your goals and write them out on a piece of paper - big enough to read from across the room. Post it - and copies of it - around your house where you will see them. This will remind you of your goals. Also you can put your smoke/drinking money in a jar instead of spending it. Save it for an item you really want - the money will add up fast! Good luck!

Dont use "discipline" per say. Maybe look into aversion therapy.

Reward system for NOT smoking, drinking, etc may work better.

You will find something that works for you. Good luck.

Find something that you have to give up everytime you mess up. Or find something to reward yourself with if you do what you want. You can't punish yourself for being depressed...you should see a doctor for that.
