"WASHINGTON - In the most important ruling on gun control in 70 years, a federal appeals court Friday for the first time used the Second Amendment to strike down a gun law.
In a 2-1 decision, the court overturned the District of Columbia’s long-standing handgun ban, rejecting the city’s argument that the Second Amendment right to bear arms applied only to militias."
Are you aware that the High Courts think that the founding fathers gave them [the people] [not the state] that right [to bear arms].

Thats because the founding brethren knew that one day the government would turn against the ppl. Its a safety barrier that"CANNOT BE TRESPASSED UPON". Our Founding brethren had a serious distrust of government and that can be found throughout the constitution, notwithstanding the primary example of the 2nd amendment. The 16th amendment is a good example of what our founding brethren were talking about.
No Lincoln was not a founding father, James Monroe was the last of the founding brethren to be president of the United States of America.

The right to bear arms does not include killing the attendant at the gas station for $20 bucks
It does however allow for someone to defend his home .. but what is the definition of home ?
As long as there is life on this planet people will defend and oppose gun control but I sure would feel better if I knew that that guy who just got fired couldn't just walk in to Walmart or a pawns shop or flea market and buy a S/W 357 magnum ..
Oh and wasn't Lincoln a founding father .. didn't he also abolish slavery ?? so why do I have to do laundry and dishes ?

Like all of the rights, they are individual rights, to try and make it a collective right sounds like something straight out of karl marxs mouth.
They are in place to restrict the government, not restrict us, they are there to protect us from the congress, or the other branches of our government.
And that second amendment is #2 for a reason to back up that we can say what we want and we do not have to fear a tyrannical congress.

I didn't know I had the right to Bear arms. When did that pass into law. And, I bet bears aren't too happy about giving up their arms. BTW, you're right, the 2nd amendment has been upheld. Now if you guys were only as concerned about the amount of violence occuring in our inner cities and our suburbs around the country. And it would be nice if you stood up for the 1st amendment when it comes to freedom of speech and the separation of church and state.

Of course Jefferson intended to give individuals the right to bear arms, he says so explicitly in his writings.

"The fact is that the criminals don't obey the law and they do have guns," he said. "It's the law-abiding citizens who are disarmed by this law."
To quote a popular bumper sticker of the 80's, and was visible in the movie Red Dawn: "They can have my gun when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers!"
