I saw a T.V. special on the Chupacabras- you fans of the paranormal and cryptozoology are familiar with the "legend" of the Chupacabras.

For those of you who don't know what the Chupacabras is, it is supposedly a strange creature with big red eyes, with vampiristic qualities. It is said that it attacks and kills animals, and drains them of blood. But there has never been any proof (that I know of) that the beast even exists.

Cattle mutilation was alluded to in the T.V. special. It was postulated that decompostion and insects could account for the bizarre wounds found on carcasses. I don't know if I believe that. How could mother nature provide insects who carve up dead bodies with such uncanny precision? Perhaps maggots and predation do explain SOME of the carcasses with odd wounds- but certainly not all. This is merely my opinion.

Is the Cupacabras real? What is it? Is it extraterrestrial? Is it related to the Mothman?

Has there been evidence to substantiate its reality?

Hey Silverbi-

I did state that there has never been any proof- but at the end, I asked if there has been any evidence. Please keep in mind that proof and evidence are entirely two different things.

Personally, I think it's just mass hysteria.

I do love such legends, however. I even know the chupacabra song! By heart! I can hardly wait until the next time I get to go to Rancho Tampico. They have the big sign on the city limits that says Bienvenidos Rancho Tampico! Precaucion! Chupacabras! I break into song every time we go down there...

Yes, I can be silly. Why not?

The scientific explanation is that they are an urban legend.
Cattle mutilation is no more than birds of prey who peck out the soft parts of the animas first--the eyes and testicles. Art Bell started an entertaining radio show, but mostly his subjects are nonsense meant only for entertainment value.

Its kinda like aliens, its something I have to see to believe. There is more proof that the Chupacabras is a breed of canine, and regarding the sttacks on animals, it does have a canine tendency with regards to killing.

"But there has never been any proof (that I know of) that the beast even exists."

That sort of negates the final part of your question. Have a look at Occam's Razor. then reconsider the maggots bit.
