So, like if i can fly in my dream, i'll fly around for a bit then after i'm back on the ground, i can't fly again or i can but not as high or for as long. Why is that?

You start loosing faith in yourself, you start doubting your capabilities...as a result, you fall.
I have had these dreams too. This is my conclusion for what i have experienced.

I think that just as our dreams are individual to each of us, so are the recurring problems we find in them.
I have experienced the same thing you describe, but the problem that most commonly manifests itself in MY dreams is that of getting lost because landmarks keep changing.
I will KNOW where something (like a particular street or a specific building) is SUPPOSED to be, but it will not be there - something else will be there in its place. It has gotten to the point where I even EXPECT this in dreams. I am generally a lucid dreamer, and when I am looking for some place in a dream, I catch myself thinking, "It won't be there because this is a dream and landmarks always change on me in dreams." or "This is a dream, so I can't go outside, because if I do, the building will change into a different one and I won't be able to get back in."
It occurs to me to wonder if my expectations of the problem aren't maybe feeding its strength and longevity. Could you inadvertantly be doing the same thing with yours?

This also happens to me, but just try getting some velocity and make yourself fly. That's what i do and it works.
