It is believed that native Americans decended from Asiatic people who crossed an arctic land bridge between what is now Russia and Alaska and migrated south through the Americas.

Additional details: There are genetic links between the peoples. Most scientists and theists alike place the origin of man at or near the northern Africa/ middle east region. The theory that indigenous peoples simply "sprang from the earth"
is similar to the Christian account of "man" being molded from the dust of the earth. This is an unlikely scenario. Migration of common ancestors is much more probable.

I am a Native American.

Let me tell you the truth. Some of these answers are very uneducated and/or culturally ignorant.

Native American people come from North American. (You could say South America too but their Indigenous people are not called Native American). They are Indigenous. That means they come from this land.

There is this theory called the Land Bridge Theory or the Bering Strait Theory. What it suggests is that Native Americans originated in Asia and crossed a land bridge into Alaska and then spread into what is now the United States.
This was supposed to occur Long ago. Anyhow please know that this theory is just that a THEORY. It is in fact scientific racism because (most) Native people themselves do not support this theory. There is more evidence to disprove this theory than to prove it. Scientists, scholars, and common citizens today believe in this theory on blind faith. If they looked into it they would realize that there is little supporting evidence. There is a ton of evidence to suggest Natives have been on this continent for a Very Long time.
For more information on this please read "Red Earth White Lies" by Vine Deloria Jr.

Natives are most related to other Indigenous people from around the world. Most Indigenous cultures share similarites. It is also true that Natives have always had boats.
They could have easily traded, mingled, and intermarried with Indigenous people from other countries. Take the Pacific Rim as a good example. Many Indigenous cultures on the Pacific Rim share similar cultural practices.

And to respond to one user who said there is no 100% full blood Natives left. I don't know who this person is or where they got their information but that is simply not true. I am a Native woman. I know full blood Natives.

Hope this helps!

Scientists believe that the Native Americans migrated from Asia. So by saying that, most people think that there was no one in North or South America before the Asians. The question is, how are they sure that there was no one here in the Americas before the Asians? Native South Americans look different from Native North Americans. That's just my theory. Science can only go so far back.

That is still being debated.

Some say that we came over from Asia across a land bridge which has since disappeared. They also say that European sailors were set adrift and the current brought them here.
DNA evidence supports this theory, but the is also some DNA that doesn't occur in other parts of the world.

Well, they have an epicanthic fold, just as Asians do. They are also closely related genetically to most Asians. It is thought they migrated across the land bridge into North America.
