What nations during the 1950's / The Cold War were democratic nations?

It does depend on how you define democracy. But a short list would be the United States, Canada, most of western Europe, Japan and India.
Most of Latin America were dictatorships of one form or another; and much of Africa and Asia was still colonized.

Mainly it was the democratic US versus the communist Soviet Union, but other democracies that sided with the US in various conflcits were France, Great Britain, Italy, Australia, West Germany, Japan and Turkey.

I wouldn't put India on that list, they have and still do buy soviet made weapons. Pakistan was our counter in that region. Cold war was basically NATO vs the soviet bloc (minus Yugoslavia) for the most part.
