I thought I’d have to worry about SIDS for 12 month, now I found out that there is such thing as SUDC (sudden unexplained death in childhood) where children as old as 5 pass away in their sleep. Any one know anything about that?

SIDS and SUDC are both rare. The medical community is trying to prevent these instances even more with Newborn Screening (NBS) tests. Many of the cases of SIDS have been learned now to have been undiagnosed genetic disorders that caused a child's body to shut down.

My son suffers from MCAD, a rare life-threatening fatty oxidation disorder, that causes his body to shut down during periods of fasting (or going without food for more than 4 hours). Had he not been diagnosed at birth, he could have been a SIDS or SUDC case since we were not aware of the genetic disorder.

Stay strong and try not to panic. Enjoy your new baby!

My sister in law died because of a hole in her heart. She died at 18 right before her graduation. But it's a genetic defect, and for holes in hearts, it IS detectable and fixable. You just need to find a real doctor. If the doctor dismisses it w/o testing for it, then s/he needs their license revoked permanently.

I ALSO WORRIED ABOUT THAT. BUT THEN I JUST REALIZED YOU CANT WORRY ABOUT EVERYTHING. LIFE IS UNCERTAIN. GOD FORBID, TOMORROW YOU COULD GET INTO A WRECK AND THAT IS THE END OF IT. JUST CONTINUE TO CHECK ON BABY. NATURAL INSTINCTS ARE THERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE HELP.

It seems a lot of children have a hole in their heart which goes undiagnosed for years...it only shows up when they are looking for respitory abnormalities as a result of sudden symptons.

Everyone dies. You can't ruin your whole life thinking about it. SUDC is very rare.
