Historically, expansion of the United states has often been by the honorable means of purchase, rather than by conquest.
We should have purchased Baja California from Mexico in 1948 and turned it into a safe homeland for the Jews. Then the Arabs could have done whatever they like with Palestine. It would still be a barren wilderness with people living in poverty, but it would not be our problem.
The Jews now in Israel are typically industrious and enterprising and would by now have turned Baja California into a blossoming paradise. Its shores would be easily defended by the US Coast Guard as indeed they are already patrolled even today. This new Israel would not need to devote much of its resources to defense.
They could be given the option, if they so chose, to join the US as a State.
Purchasing Baja California from Mexico would have been a large expense but expended just one time, not like the endless hemorhaging of American wealth which now goes into keeping Israel afloat in an ultimately indefensible location.
But it was not to be. *Sigh*. A lost opportunity to create an outcome in which everybody wins.

African nations need to resolve their own cultural issues --- and it is about cultural issues, they keep themselves in poverty because of how they live. And yes, religion plays a huge role. The age of colonization is over --- but this clearly does NOT impede financial/commercial 'empires'. As for annexing Mexico: WHAT??? It is not cost effective. And yes, the Israelis would turn Baja California into an irrigated paradise.

I don't think so. The whole world have made a commitment not to annex or conquer another country. If the US annex Africa, they might have severe problems with Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Muammar Al Qaddafi of Libya. They might also have some problems with Britain because South Africa is a friend of Britain.

Re-colonization and annexation because the countries would benefit by it? Do they appreciate the largesse involved in such a move? Possibly not. Maybe we ought to wait until they ask, eh?

Are you kidding? Do you know how much that will cost?
People have to be making money to tax them and supply the government with funds to pay for services.
We don't need to annex anything, we need to fix what we have.

Since the US is in such bad shape maybe Canada should annex us. Where do you get the nerve to even think of these stupid ideas?

Honestly with all do respect don't you think we have our nose in enough of other people's business? I think we should concentrate on fixing the problems we have at home.
