they are glow in the dark but i dont know how or if that will affect anything

Yes you could but it wont work as well as easter egg die or paint!You can dip it into all of them as long as they arent washable:)you can also use marker or nailpolish I have lots of experiance with those MESSY

with the glow in the dark material i don't think it will stick. But but maybe kool aid will just mix some colored kool aid in a cup with some shampoo or dish detergant and let it soak it might work but it will be better than food coloring with will probably get all over your shoes when its wet. food coloring in water will probably just run and make a mess the first time they get wet. Go with a RIT fabric dye (though I don't know how well the glow-in-the-dark aspect will hold up to dying.

food coloring will usually wash out in water..
maybe try coloring it with kool-aid (or however you spell it..)
