I think you are referring to WEB DuBois???

There was a really fascinating dynamic that went on around 1900 between the super-accomodationist Booker T. Washington who believed the best way for blacks to deal with the dominant white culture was to accept it as it was, and do the best possible within the system. His Atlanta Speech and use of a hand as five fingers and yet each one with a separate place and task was a good example of this.

DuBois on the other hand was a founder of the NAACP and also active in the Niagara Movement. He believed that there was no possible way of blacks ever getting the vote by following Washington's ideas. He believed that the 'talented tenth', the best of the brightest of the blacks needed to pursue education and political activism, and through this they would achieve the legal right to vote.

This debate is very similar to the debate and activities of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the accomodationist and the one who believed in peaceful protest and Malcolm X who believed the blacks must stand up and defend themselves against the white devil.

The N.A.A.C.P. was founded by Henry Moscowitz, a Jewish businessman, and all caucasians were president of the N.A.A.C.P. right up until the death of Kivie Kaplan in 1975. The first Afro-American president of the N.A.A.C.P. was W. Montague Cobb after the death of Kivie Kaplan.

Your first responder John B is absolutely CORRECT with regard to W.E.B DuBois being the opponent of accomodationism! As for Charlienoble... you are incorrect! Moscowitz was one of six founders who were white, Black and Jewish. Those founders were Ida Wells-Barnett (Black), W.E.B. DuBois (Black), Henry Moscowitz (Jewish), Mary White Ovington (white), Oswald Garrison Villiard (white), and William English Walling (white).
