I say good for her. Like every single umpire before her she earned the right to be where she is. As time goes by nobody will point out that a female is umpiring and that would mean that not only has the novelty worn off but she has done exactly what see was paid to do....call the game by the rules and work to be in proper position to make the correct call. As a fan the best way to judge any umpire is by the fact that you probably couldnt remember who the umps were because they called a good game (fans will find out who made a bad call and heckle them the rest of the game). If the ML Umpires Association deemed her as one of the best then she earned her spot and deserves all the credit for a job well done (no different from the male umpires).Congrats to her, maybe she can inspire others females to work hard and make a difference whether or not it is a male dominated field....any job should go to the most qualified person, period!

Who cares what sex, color, or religion she is as long as she can do the job. Why can't reporters just leave things like this alone and let her do her job. I am tired of the media drawing more attention to a person just because they are different from the norm. Don't get me wrong I am happy that a female can ump, would even like to see a female manager in the big leagues if she is good. I just hate that reporters draw more attention to her make the microscope that much larger for her to be under.

I think it's absolutely great! I am a girl who plays baseball so I understand prejudice people and how some think baseball is only for the men. And any woman who is willing to do that is my hero. No doubt. I have a strong feeling she'll really prove something!

An umpire is an umpire. It doesn't matter if they're male, female, or animal. It is great for baseball. I hope she lasts longer than the female referee in the NBA a few years back.

Way to go Rita!. That's no easy course to get through. I know she will be good knowing what she had to go through to get the job.
What azzhole is doing thumbs down? I'm stating she had to work hard for it just like all the other umpires that got their position. It's a tough gig to get. Think before you do.

Its not a big deal. If she makes correct calls good stuff.
Sometimes we do more bad then good announceing this stuff. I think a girl can do anything a guy can do. When we highlight it sometimes it feels like we are saying wowie goley gosh a girl and umpire too. When she can and should be. As long as she can do it fairly and call correctly I am okay with it....
But like other umpires if she doesnt do it right she should get a rash of S@#$

I agree. As long as she knows what she is doing, I'm fine with a female umpire.

Make the right calls, stand your ground in an argument and there will be no complaints about the only female umpire

Just another umpire to get angry at for blowing a call.
