WWI marked the 1st use of airplanes, tanks and poison gas in battle. It was also the first to be fought by nations from every part of the globe... making it a world war.

Things World War I was NOT - The first *world* war: The first truly world war was Queen Anne's War, known in North America as the French and Indian War, fought form 1754 to 1763 between Britain and its allies and France and its allies, in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. hmm "consodered" is a rather interesting word. well its basically because it was fought with modern weapons. most of the weapons we have today are just modified versions of those invented during that war.

1. First use of powered fixed-wing aircraft. (Balloons and gliders had been used on a limited basis in earlier conflicts.)

2. First use of armored vehicles (i.e., tanks).

3. Extensive use of automatic weapons, motorized vehicle transport, electronic communications, and other modern adaptations.

4. First use of submarines on a more-than-incidental basis.
