I am doing research in which I need to retrieve data from as far back as possible, ideally the 1930s. I need to get book value of as many companies as possible for as many years as possible. Something like value line would be ideal, but valueline.com only has data from the 1980s, and very few libraries in the country have the data from the 1930s. Those that do are not in my region (I live in Boston, Massachusetts). Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get book value of as many companies for as many years as possible? I would be willing to pay for data. Both online or books would be fine. Thanks a lot.

Jeremy Siegel, author of Stocks for the Long Term and a Yahoo! Finance columnist, is an excellent resource. He has done extensive long term stock market research and writes about the topic of long term stock performance frequently. I do not know what information he has available regarding book value, though. His research material is very expensive but he frequently writes about the results of his research in his columns.
