wikipedia defines homophobia as: "the fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals. It can also mean hatred, hostility, or disapproval of homosexual people, sexual behavior, or cultures, and is generally used to insinuate bigotry.[2] The term homophobic means "prejudiced against homosexual people,"[3] and a person who is homophobic is a homophobe."
We do not "fear" or hate homosexuals... We do not fear men (which is literally what HOMO means) in fact the opposite is true. We fear GOD. I woud think that the "intelligent left" could think of a more accurate term to describe us.
Maybe call it SinAversion or something... I could live with that... At least the term is accurate.

Because by spreading innacuracies and outright lies the activists in a certain sexual category can make it look like those with a working moral compass are sick in the head instead of the other way around.

Cut and pasted from your definition: It can also mean hatred, hostility, or disapproval of homosexual people, sexual behavior, or cultures, and is generally used to insinuate bigotry.
That is EXACTLY what you are describing. How is it inaccurate??? Sound VERY accurate to me.
In my opinion, you are not a homophobe, simply because you think that homosexuality is wrong. But when you cross the line, and use insulting words like 'f*g' or 'homo' to describe us, or feel the need to insult us, preach to us of your BELIEFS, or otherwise treat us like we are not even human beings, then homophobia is EXACTLY the correct term.
I have a co-worker FRIEND who is evangelical Christian. We have discussed our positions to each other with respect and dignity. THAT is how the issue should be handled by civilized, non-homophobic adults!

I think your somewhat rambling statement makes a point. On one side you have 'gay' people or sympathisers who are sick of people quoting (often inaccurately) biblical texts as a justification of views that make no logical sense. On the other side you have 'christians' who hide behind the bible, because they are afraid to show their true beliefs and they can be very one dimensional and narrow minded in their approach towards people. So although you claim that Christians don't hate or fear homosexuals, unfortunately you are speaking for your belief (maybe) but not for the general 'judgemental Christian' who comes onto answers and spouts off their opinion. Words are words at the end of the day and however you term them the facts remain the same. Homosexuality is a reality with or without a belief in God. People need to learn to stop judging and start trying to understand other people's points of view and accepting sometimes the only agreement can be to disagree!

You make an excellent point. Even though I am a non-Christian homosexual, I could have an intelligent conversation with you re: homophobia.
However, if you are in favor of denying gay marriage rights, gay civil unions, etc. then I think to some degree you are homophobic because you are being discriminatory. You can disagree with my lifestyle, but I have a problem when my rights are being denied.
I have no idea of how discriminatory you are, so I will assume you are not homophobic.

If the aversion to homosexuality is really because of Leviticus in the Bible then Christians would be equally wary of mixing different fabrics and eating shellfish, also prohibited in Leviticus.
Christian fundamentalism is clearly a movement designed to denigrate all sorts of non-Christian families, including homosexuals. The most horrendous effects are anti-gay laws passed in many states prohibiting gay unions or their recognition in the name of "traditional family values."
It's discrimination. How else could they justify their position against gay marriage or freedom for homosexuals to adopt or even congregate? All theistic excuses fall apart. A gay family doesn't do anything to denigrate your heterosexual morals and vice-verse.
Plus we live in a free society. What business is it of yours what two consenting adults do in their bedroom?
It's outright bigotry. Even under "hate the sin, not the sinner" viewpoints. Conservatives don't want to look at the genetic factors in homosexuality, which tells you something right there. In fact most don't seem to want to learn or accept anything these days.

It's pretty simple. If you don't fear homosexuals, don't discriminate against them, don't hate them, aren't hostile or prejudiced towards them and let them lead their lives the way they are comfortable doing so without you attempting to interfere with them, impose your beliefs on them or incite others to fear/attack them, then Christian or not, you are NOT homophobic. Congratulations!

You may fear God but you hate us so the term homophobia works. Sin aversion?? Certain segments of the Christian population are the biggest sinners going.

I don't use 'homophobia' to describe christians. I use 'christian' to describe christians. I use 'homophobe' to describe those who have this weird hostility toward other people and choose to discriminate against said people based entirely on their sexuality. Which, according to your definition, would fit.
