I'm on the pill, and have been a whole year. The past few months I've noticed my period seems to be getting waaay lighter and somewhat shorter. I used to have to use 'super' tampons, but now all I need is 'light.' Is this normal? I thought I was pregnant, but I've had the past three periods that I was supposed to. All very light, too...but I still have to wear tampons and everything. I thought I've been having pregnancy symptoms for the past 3 months, but I've had periods and negative tests.

So, first of all: do you think I'm pregnant but still having periods on time?

And: Do birth control pills make your periods lighter and shorter and make you have less 'PMS symptoms?'

BC pills make your periods lighter and shorter, less mood swings, less bloating, etc. I've been on BC pills since 1972, my period is so light that I can use a couple of pantyliners and be ok. Last month I had blood on one pantyliner. I don't ever have PMS , bloating,, or mood swings. I do not think you are pregnant. But the pill works by making your body think it is pregnant, and so you do not ovulate. And that is why you could think you are experiencing pregnancy symptoms.

First off you can still have your period in the first trimester and in very rare case almost through the whole pregnancy. it would be very light like your talking about. im not to sure if a pregnancy test could be fooled by the periods or not. birth controls pills can make your periods lighter, short and regular YOU SHOULD GO TO A DOCTOR

I've been on the pill for 3 years now and my periods are very light and don't last very long either. It's normal for that to happen. The only strange thing is that it's only been the past few months and you've been taking it for a year. I don't think there is anything to worry about but you might want to talk to your doctor anyway.

1st question: You might want to see a doctor to make sure you are not pregnant, but it doesn't sound like you are.

2nd question: I have experienced the same thing. I have been on the Pill for a couple years now, and my periods have gotten progressively shorter and lighter. I think it's your body getting used to the hormones.

Yes your periods become lighter for sure. It is actually a reason why some women go on birth control - to make "life" more enjoyable. It sounds like you don't have anything to worry about. Talk to your doctor if you are really unsure. When I stopped taking birth control, I got more cramping for sure - at ovulation and at AF. Good luck to you!
