The tailed beasts, 2 from the 5 dwell inside their bodies. Shukaku is in Gaara & Kyubi is in Naruto.
Because they have the tailed beasts inside them, they bare the marks of one who is harboring a beast:
Gaara having Shukaku, the Tanuki, being that he can't sleep his face resembles the bandit markings of a racoon dog.
Naruto having Kyubi, the Kitsunne, his face has the resemblence of the whiskers of the fox.
Both Gaara & Naruto had a relative (?) who had to be sacrificed in order to seal the tailed beats. The seal is what both keeps the beasts inside their host & keeps their power in check.
Gaara & Naruto were both outcasts from society & shunned completly by their fellow villagers. Being almost denied of their exsistance. Naruto found the light, friends & people who cared about him...while Gaara was completly alone & was only used as a tool.

It would be that they were shunned as children. And called monsters by adults,
In Gaara's case it would have been well deserved since he was dangerous. His powers were apparent as a child. And he had little positive instruction in their proper use. Naruto abilities didn't appear until his teen years. He was shunned due to the sacrifice of being a prison to the nine tailed fox demon. Parents thought that Naruto was dangerous. Children picked up on their parents fear and stayed away from him.
Another thing they have in common would be their immense power. Gaara is learning from Naruto's example that you don't have to be a monster cause people call you one. That you have to prove people wrong. Naruto's dream of being Hokage is based on using his power to protect and as a force of good. to be loved for what he does. Not feared for things he hasn't done.
