Burned out bulb or bad ground. Go to each corner of the car and observe what is happening. If the bulb does not light, then replace it. If it just flashes too fast but lights up, then remove the bulb and socket and clean everything .

A burned out bulb will normally cause your turn signal light in your dash to light up but not flash. A shorted/grounded wire will cause it to flash rapidly.

A burned out bulb would cause it not to flash at all. Your problem is that you have the wrong type bulb in the tail light blinker. Check the manual or ask the dealer for the proper type bulb.

Have you replaced the bulbs recently? If so, did you replace them with bulbs with the same rating as the originals? That may be your problem. The flash relay is affected by the amount of resistance on the circuit. In this case, the resistance is the auto bulb.

a older vehicle it is the flasher unit itself, do the turn signal flasher and emergency flasher blink at same rate/noise. is the noise the same for both sides? check your bulbs, check for good ground. last thing would be a directional switch itself.
