I went to New York and it was very expensive. Like £30 per person to go up the empire state building and other similar attractions. It certainly wasn't as cheap as i thought. Also be careful when buying things, they look cheap but they add the tax on at the till.

I spent £700 in a week just for myself

It Depends on where you are going!

If you are going to a tourist area such as disney or a theme park around the states then you will need quite a lot. Are you staying in a touristy built area? Or you at the suburbs??

It really depends on which state you are going. New York, California, and other states can be expensive. There are other states that has a really good accommodations and are a lot less. Look for natural scenery.
