thscreen started to fade out as I was sending a text. so I took the battery out and put it back in and now the screen is completely black! I dont even see the light flashing in the upper corner! Help

Its almost impossible to tell without more info and even then may just need to be examined, but i can tell ya this...
I was once using the car charger on my Treo 650, and the same thing happened to mine. It was not being handled or used at the time, but the screen turned on and was a gray-white blank screen. Then it turned off and was dead. I couldn't get it to do anything. No power, nothing. It was still under warranty so i just got it swapped, therefore never found out what happened exactly. I assume the unit it shorted out.
And yes, I was using an official Palm car charger, the one that came with the phone, actually.
I hope it works out for you in the end. It sounds like you didn't have anything to do with its failure.
