There are three things it might be. The first is urine. I'm sure you are familiar with the smell of that, right? So its pretty easy to rule it out if it doesn't have the smell.
The second thing is cervical mucus, which will increase in production as you get closer to labor. It can be really thin and moist, so it might feel like fluid. The third is actual amniotic fluid. Not being familiar with them, you probably won't be able to tell the difference.
The good news is that your body seems to be starting the labor process. It make take a day or two to get it moving, but you are starting. Here's a link that explains the difference between labor and pre-labor (the contractions that come and go) http://www.birthingnaturally.net/birth/progress/isit.html.
Studies show no increased risk with having your water broken as long as you keep things out of the birth canal, so it shouldn't matter if it is fluid or mucus. In case it is fluid, no fingers to check, no tampons to catch liquid, no intercourse to try to start labor - nothing entering the birth canal. The risk for infection comes from sticking something in there and pulling normal bacteria from outside the vagina into the birth canal where it is not supposed to go.
So my best advice. Relax tonight, enjoy a good meal and get plenty of sleep because it sounds like labor is just waiting for the perfect moment to start. Oh, and don't be afraid to go to sleep. I promise you will not sleep through the birth of your baby. :-)

First off, don't panic! It sounds like it is amnioc fluid. Go to the hospital and get it checked out. It is NOT dangerous for the baby to not have amniotic fluid. it is just that once the bag of water breaks, bacteria can get into the baby's environment and multiply with time, potentially causing an infection. Don't worry, just call your MD or go to the hospital. If you are earlier than 37 weeks, they will give you antibiotics regardless, so just go in shortly. good luck!

If you think your water has broken its important to inform your midwife or OB. You didnt mention how far along you are but if you are preterm (before 37 wks) they'll need to check things out to determine if the fluid you are leaking is amnio or not. (Its totally non-invasive, just a quick wipe.) When your water breaks it can come out in a huge gush or be a small trickle. It can even stop and start again. Like I said before you need to call your doc especially if you are <37 wks.

Go to the Doctor, If your water is leaking that means there is a hole in the sac, which means the baby is vulnerable to diseases, it is the sac that protects the baby. If the sac breaks or is leaking you need to be in the hospital. Good luck!

Go to the hospital to labor and delivery and tell them everything you just told us. They will do a test to tell if your water broke. It is dangerous for the baby and yourself if it did and you don't go to the hospital. You are more suseptible for infection now if it did and the baby as well. Not to mention the baby needs the fluids to survive.

Call the doctor. They can perform EASY tests to see if your water has indeed broke. They need to make sure you have that baby within 24 hours of your water breaking to reduce the risk of infection. Call them and do as they say. Good luck

It sounds like your water broke. Sometimes it's a very fast emptying, sometimes it's a slow leak. You should call your doctor, let him/her know what's up. Don't take a bath, or have sex! Good luck!
