Go for it!!!! Of course it's safer and easier to stay in your cushy day job. But if you choose to stay there via procrastination you will always be there and wonder if the grass was greener in the business world. Start off small with the aim to grow, this way you have smaller overheads to begin with. This also allows you to be able to manage a smaller budget as well.
Also remember that the first few years is hard in small business. You HAVE to be accountable for all of your actions. You don't have your boss there to take the fall for you. Sometimes you will feel overwhelmed. It's remarkable the things you start to understand when you go from the mindset of employee to employer.
A lot of people go into business thinking they can choose their own hours ect. While this is true. You need to remember that what you put into it you will get back. It's hard yakka to begin with and not glamourous to begin with.
After saying those words of caution I LOVE business, its exciting to see where you can go and what you can acheive . You don't know if you don't try.If you start small, whats the worst that can happen??? You quit and go back to your job. But at least you've tried

This is a great question. There are certain things you need to consider before you quit your day job. Of course, some of us were "forced" to leave our jobs when we started our businesses. I had no option. Maybe it was God's way of telling me that I have settled for being average too long and I need to step outside of my comfort zone and make things happen. You mention a cushy job, but you also recognize that your life is more important than the cushiness of a J.O.B. Many people fail to realize that if you can dream it, you can have it. Obviously, you are not one of those people, and I commend you on that. Did I start a small business? Yes. I tell people all of the time that I will lose my house, car and everything I own as long as I am able to build my business again!
We should not ask life to be fair, we should ask it to be worth it! Most people want life to be fair. I want life to be worth it!
To your success!

Sort of, I started my Mary Kay business while working full time in corporate America. I was able to quit within a year. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Like you I was hesitant never liked sales especially home party kind of stuff. I was really surprised how different is was from what I expected.
I love the freedom and flexibility and never imaged it would come from selling make-up.
Follow your dream as Mary Kay say what the mind can conceive you can achieve. Don't wonder what if you don't get a second chance.

Hi there, i did. I didnt think i was the type of person to just quit and start a business, but i did and it worked. My business partner and i had already been planning to start up a business though,we had all our ideas on the table and had looked at a premises to lease. We actually did have a base plan, finding stock, furnishings, staff etc. What we didnt plan on was me quitting my job much earlier than expected!! We hadnt sourced out all of our funds yet or even planned the full design.Thankfully for us we work better under pressure. I do suggest to plan your venture out to the last dollar and make sure you can sustain your business. We have a successfull business and are now planning to expand.I wouldnt change it for the world now. We are even comfortable enough for me to not have to work 'IN' the business just 'ON' the business. Go for it !!

No ,but i dropped out of school to start a buisness.lol . Dont do it though, nothing but a pain in the a**. If you do,keep it SMALL! Dont hire anyone, just keep it to yourself. Its not as dreamy as it might seem, but you can set your own hours and come and go as you please, thats about all the good i can say about being your own boss.
