Ferrets are indeed obligate carnivores, just like a cat. Feeding a ferret meat will not make it mean... the more meat is the main food in a ferret's diet, the healthier it will be. Unfortunately, most commercial ferret foods don't have a high meat percent. Check the labels to decide which is best. Ferrets, much like their human family, love to eat what is not good for them. Starches, fruits and vegies are not good for their digestive systems, it just isn't made to process such foods and deprives them of the nutrients they need. Speaking as a ferret momma of several fur babies, they do beg and I will give the occasional "bad" treat, but there are treats that are available from the pet stores that are good for them.

Depends on the ferret. However, they are carnivores, exclusively. Don't feed them grains, like cereal, and avoid fruits and veggies. Their digestive systems simply aren't set up to handle such food properly.

Cooked chicken or turkey are fine. The biggest problem though is that ferrets imprint on what is food at a very young age. Most of them don't recognize treats as something to eat if it isn't offered to them as a baby.

Unseasoned poached meat...cut small.

Ferrets really like crackers, cereal, pretzels...stuff like that -- BUT -- they really should have it in very limited quantities. Sometimes when I am sitting down with a snack at night i give them a small piece of a pretzel or something but that's it! If a ferret gets too many sugary items or items choc full of carbs they can develop a disease called insulinoma. Ferrets "systems" were meant to eat strictly meat.

Basically you just want to use common sense here...no overloading, and stick to ferret treats with the occasional nibble of something you are eating.
