1) The tank
2) The machine gun
3) The airplane
4) Chemical munitions
5) The submarine

Out of these five, I'd have to say that the most significant was the machine gun. Use of the machine gun is what drove the troops into trench warfare; for the first time in history, two men with one weapon were capable of decimating an entire company of soldiers. This kind of firepower made the tactics of the time immediately obsolete and was a major factor in the high body count on both sides of the conflict.

Good question! For killing and permanent injury, chlorine gas, terrible. Airplane, although Pancho Villa first used in 1912 in his revolution, information made battle static. Machine guns, not new. but used by Germans to enfilade. Tank, as things to come. Medical evacuation, carrying on from Crimean War, to save lives. BAR, first assault weapon that was portable and high rate of fire. Telegraph and phone, while lines where often cut, gave immediate tactical response.
Sorry, I don't know any more.

Tanks, Poison Gas, Airplanes, Submarines and Machines guns were used in mass for the 1st time. Airplanes being the most significant as it gives one the ability to strike behind the lines and strike at mainly civilian targets.
