Is the noise coming from your computer tower or the UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) that your computer might be plugged into?
Many notebooks/laptops sound an alarm when they are low on battery power (less than 10% remaining) so plugging into an AC outlet fixes that. If you're getting this when you laptop is plugged in, check the cord- there might be a loose connection preventing it from getting power, or the laptop battery itself could be going bad.
UPS batteries need replacing after 4-5 years on average, and when they no longer hold a charge, your UPS will frequently sound an alarm letting you know the battery needs to be replaced.
If you've got a UPS and the light on the front is red or orange instead of green, that's probably You can sometimes override the audible alarm with a button on the UPS itself- that varies by model.

One computer that came in had an alarm that went off telling us that it was overheating. Remove the cover and look for dust in the fans etc. Clean the inside and if it's still making noise replace the fans etc. The only other thing I can think is the hard drive, but they usually make clicking sounds before going bad.
This has nothing to do with the battery, If the battery goes bad you will lose you settings in cmos or the time and date may be wrong.

I'm not certain what "alarm like noise" it's making, but if it is something that just started recently it would be a good idea to check it out before any damage is done to your PC.
Also, you'd be surprised at how much dust and such can accumulate inside your computer. I'd recommend taking the cover off and dusting inside there with a can of compressed air. Sometimes a simple cleaning can stop these strange noises.
Also take note of the condition of the fan. If the fan is covered in dust then it may not be working to capacity, or it may have stopped working altogether. Your computer needs to keep cool or parts will begin to overheat, leading to repairs down the road.

If it sounds like a loud whining noise that comes and goes, then one of the fans in your computer might have a failed bearing. Take the lid off and see if you can tell exactly where it's coming from.

This happens on my laptop when the battery is very low so I tend to keep it on charge whenever I can. Seems to work for me so might be worth giving it a try. Good luck!

does it lock up when it makes that noise?
it just means that all your memory is being used at that moment. and it usually stops whenever something quits working. all you have to do is get more memory or delete some of the stuff off your computer that you dont really need.
