Try Ubuntu first and see if it works.

Burn it to a cd and boot from there just to see how it operates. You don't need to install anything, it can run from the cd without harm to your pc.

Xubuntu is a complete Linux with an Ubuntu base. It is lighter on system requirements and tends to be more efficient than Ubuntu, which makes it better for old or low-end machines.

I prefer Ubuntu if your system runs it well. Try the Beryl desktop, SMOKES! Search for it on Utube and see the demo!

If you had clicked on the link I gave you in your previous post you would see what Xbuntu is. It is Ubuntu designed for lower powered, older computers. The minimum RAM amount is 128MB for installation, however, after installation it can run on 64MB of RAM. The primary difference is that it uses a lighter desktop environment (think Gui) than does traditional Ubuntu.
