can anyone tell me what power a police officer has is he is off duty, but wearing his uniform. I was picked up for a driving affence. This police officer off duty arrested me, called at all my neighbours houses asking about my conduct (i had lived there for more than twenty years) upset my wife by saying i had been trying to kill myself and gained entry to my house on this pretense, to look at the drugs i take on a daily basis. Did he have the authority to do this, where do i go to get advise.

Sue them police are corrupt, they were picked on in school, probably have small johnsons, and try to get revenge through, their new authority.

You have a bunch of issues here. First of all, an off duty police officer has the same rights as if he/she is on duty.

The police officer had no right to enter your house and search for anything, unless he had reasonable suspicion.
I am a paralegal and this is a complex issue, you need to tell an attorney this and you may have a good lawsuit on your hands against the police officer and department for unlawful search and seizure. If this officer used false information to gain entrance to your house, you have a very good case. You can even get this officer suspended/fired if you pursue it far enough. Contact an attorney unless you want to suffer the consequences.

an off duty police officer has no powers other than that of a normal citizen as far as im aware (for uk anyway). and why was he wearing his uniform if off duty. if i were you id seek legal advice from solicitor. not that you would get very far....i lost faith in police long time ago....gone are the true bobbies who have been replaced with pr*cks with sunbed tans and gelled hair all on some kind of power trip. good luck

Get a lawyer.
There is an old saying: 'If this is the best you can do representing yourself then you've got a fool for a client.'
