Here is the mileage. More less from where you start and finish.
The distance from Kansas City, Kansas to San Francisco, California is approximately 1498.8 miles (2412.0 km)
Say you do 18 mph then that would be 83 gallons and at $2.75 would be $223 for one way. This does not include driving around at your destination now
...............................................;...... ,........ With Synthetic Oil
$2.75 @ 18 mpg = $223 ............. 22 mpg = $187
$3.00 = $250
$3.25 = $270
$2.75 @ 16 mpg = $257 ................19 mpg = $216
$3.00 = $280
$3.25 = $304
If you want to save some money is do an oil change but use SYNTHETIC OIL. It really increases mpg on long drives.
An increase from 22mpg would cost $187 and saving $38. That is only a 4 gal a mile increase.
With a 33% increase it goes to 24 mpg costing $!74 saving $49.
I had bought a 82 Celica GT 4 cylinder. About two years later I read about synthetic oil and tried it. I was amazed. An ad that told the truth. I got the 33% increase on long distance driving and then figuring the higher cost of oil, I still saved about $8 month on gas. Can you imagine what I save now. I just use it knowing I am saving money. Also it is recommended to do the syn oil change every 6 months. So see the cost of two regular oil changes and one syn change. But the oil at Wal mart if possible. They have the buy the 5 quart jug for the price of 4 quarts.
Anyway, if you do use syn oil, remember the name and email me when you get back. I would like to know the driving mileage going and coming. I know for a fact coming back is when you will start to see the mileage difference. It takes about a 1000 miles for the oil to seep in the motor metal. So your first fillup you may not notice anything but everyone will gradually pickup a little. And if you pick up any good looking hitchhikers send me their telephone numbers. And when you see the mileage saved coming back and that the stuff works, You will never go back to the dark side, Luke. lol

Middle of the country is pretty cheap. California, I just paid $3.20/gal. With that nice V8 truck you'll be getting ... well, doesn't bear to think about your MPG.
Slowing down saves a LOT of gas. I can cut my fuel costs by 30% by going 55 instead of 75.

Do you happen to know what kind of mileage you are currently getting and at what speed, etc? You need to find out from like AAA the way to plan on driving and where, and they will give you approximately the miles. Divide the gallons of gas it takes by the approximate miles will give you a close guess as to mileage. Hope I have been able to assist you. Good Luck and God Bless !!
